How to Get to Oslob from Cebu City — Complete Transportation Guide

Getting to Oslob — Everything You Need to Know

Oslob is located 133 kilometers south of Cebu City on the southeastern coast of Cebu island. While it's not exactly around the corner, getting there is straightforward and part of the adventure. Here's every option.

Option 1: Public Bus (Most Popular)

The cheapest and most common way to reach Oslob from Cebu City.

Step by Step:

  1. Go to Cebu South Bus Terminal — located in N. Bacalso Ave, Cebu City. Grab or taxi from most Cebu hotels costs ₱100-200.
  2. Take a Ceres Liner bus bound for Oslob or Bato — look for the yellow/orange Ceres buses with "Oslob" or "Bato" on the signboard. Air-conditioned buses are recommended.
  3. Tell the conductor you're going to Oslob — they'll let you know when to get off.
  4. Travel time: 3-4 hours depending on traffic and stops.
  5. Cost: ₱180-250 (air-conditioned).

Bus Schedule:

  • First bus: ~4:00 AM
  • Last bus: ~6:00 PM
  • Frequency: Every 20-30 minutes during peak hours

Tips:

  • Go early (before 6 AM) if you want to do whale sharks first — they start at 6 AM
  • Bring a light jacket — the AC can be freezing
  • Sit on the right side for coastal views on the way south
  • Download offline maps — cell signal can be spotty in rural areas

Option 2: Private Car / Rental

The most comfortable option, especially for groups.

Route:

  1. From Cebu City, head south on the national highway (N. Bacalso Ave → Natalio Bacalso National Highway)
  2. Pass through Talisay, Minglanilla, Naga, San Fernando, Carcar, Barili, Moalboal, Badian, Samboan
  3. Continue along the scenic coastal road to Oslob

Details:

  • Distance: ~133 km
  • Travel time: 2.5-3.5 hours (depending on traffic)
  • Gas cost: ~₱500-700 one way
  • Car rental: ₱2,500-4,000/day (self-drive) or ₱3,500-5,000/day (with driver)

Tips:

  • The road is paved the entire way but winding in some mountain sections
  • Stop in Carcar for the famous chicharon (fried pork rind) — it's a Cebu delicacy
  • If you plan to do paragliding at OCPD, the site is up a mountain road — a motorbike (habal-habal) from town is easier than driving up yourself

Option 3: V-Hire (Shared Van)

Faster than the bus, but less frequent.

  • Where: Cebu South Bus Terminal, look for V-hire counters
  • Cost: ₱250-350 per person
  • Travel time: 2.5-3 hours (fewer stops)
  • Tip: Vans leave when full (usually 10-12 passengers), so arrive early for faster departure

Option 4: From Dumaguete (via Liloan Ferry)

If you're coming from Negros or Siquijor, this is your route.

  1. Take a ferry from Sibulan port (Dumaguete) to Liloan port (southern Cebu)
  2. Ferry time: ~30 minutes | Cost: ~₱60
  3. From Liloan, take a bus or tricycle north to Oslob (~20 minutes, ₱30-50)

Getting Around Oslob

Once in Oslob town:

  • Habal-habal (motorcycle taxi): The main transport. ₱50-150 per ride depending on distance.
  • Tricycle: ₱30-100 for short trips within town.
  • To OCPD paragliding site: Take a habal-habal from Oslob town to Can-anao Road (~15-20 minutes up the mountain). We can also arrange pickup — just mention it when booking your flight.
  • To whale shark area: Get off the bus at Tan-awan (before Oslob town proper) or take a tricycle from town (₱50).

Best Time to Travel

  • For whale sharks: Leave Cebu City by 3-4 AM to arrive by 6 AM opening
  • For paragliding: Morning flights start at 9 AM — leave Cebu by 5-6 AM, or stay in Oslob the night before
  • Our recommendation: Stay overnight in Oslob to enjoy both activities without rushing. Day 1: whale sharks + Tumalog Falls. Day 2: paragliding at OCPD + cafe lunch.
